Itinerary

5 hoursMount Gay Visitor Centre

Start your tour at the magnificent Foursquare Rum Distillery. Once a working sugar factory in the 15th century, Foursquare now pays tribute to the many aspects of Barbadian history. You will learn about the various stages of rum-making and enjoy sampling their excellent rums at the bar. From here, we will visit The Mount Gay Visitor Centre, founded in 1703—and the world’s oldest commercial rum distillery. For three centuries, residents and visiting sailors have sipped its sweet golden nectar. Each distillery has its distinct secrets to share with you. Then let us introduce you to a quintessential “Bajan rum shop.” There are rum shops all over Barbados, about 1,200 scattered across the island. They include village shops that provide everything – groceries, bread, provisions – and are a local meeting place with rum and dominoes while the hours away with good friends and talk.
