Arrive in Christchurch, the largest city on New Zealand’s South Island, often called the “Garden City.” Upon arrival, make your way to your accommodation. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure—explore the rejuvenated city center, stroll through the beautiful Botanic Gardens, or take a relaxing punt ride on the Avon River.
Depart Christchurch in the morning aboard a comfortable Intercity coach, journeying south along the scenic east coast. Arrive in Dunedin, a charming university town rich in Scottish heritage and Victorian architecture. In the afternoon, you may explore sights like the Dunedin Railway Station, Otago Museum, or take an optional tour of Larnach Castle.
Travel inland through breathtaking Southland landscapes to reach Te Anau, the gateway to Fiordland National Park. This tranquil lakeside town is perfect for unwinding. Optional activities include a visit to the Te Anau Glowworm Cavesor a lakeside walk before settling in for the night.
An early start takes you along the stunning Milford Road, renowned for its alpine vistas, to Milford Sound. Enjoy a 2.5-hour nature cruise through the fiord, marveling at waterfalls, towering cliffs, and perhaps seals or dolphins. A picnic lunch is included onboard. After the cruise, continue your journey to Queenstown, New Zealand’s adventure capital.
Enjoy a full day to explore Queenstown at your own pace. Choose from adrenaline-pumping activities like bungy jumping, skydiving, or jet boating, or opt for a more relaxed pace with a gondola ride and panoramic views from Bob’s Peak. Wine lovers might enjoy a tour of the Gibbston Valley vineyards.
Depart Queenstown and travel through the dramatic landscapes of the Haast Pass and Westland National Park, arriving in the glacier town of Franz Josef. This small village is nestled near one of the world’s most accessible glaciers, offering a dramatic change of scenery.
Spend the day exploring Franz Josef Glacier and its surroundings. You may take a guided glacier hike, a heli-hike, or relax in the Glacier Hot Pools. The rainforest walks and alpine views make this an unforgettable part of your journey.
Travel from Franz Josef to Greymouth, then board the iconic TranzAlpine train, one of the world’s great scenic railway journeys. Cross the Southern Alps, traversing spectacular gorges, viaducts, and the Arthur’s Pass National Park before arriving back in Christchurch.
Your journey concludes in Christchurch. Depending on your flight schedule, enjoy some final sightseeing or souvenir shopping before making your way to the airport for your onward travel.
