Embark on a 9-day journey through Suriname, French Guiana, and Guyana, combining lush rainforest exploration, rich cultural experiences, and fascinating historical sites. Begin in Paramaribo, the vibrant capital of Suriname, and travel upriver into the heart of the Amazon for wildlife spotting, traditional Maroon village visits, and rainforest adventures. Explore UNESCO World Heritage sites, colonial plantations, and Forts before venturing into French Guiana to visit the Guiana Space Centre and the infamous Îles du Salut. Conclude with a scenic return to Paramaribo and onward to Georgetown, Guyana .
Arrive in Paramaribo, the vibrant capital of Suriname, where you will be welcomed at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport. After meeting your guide, transfer to your hotel located along the scenic Suriname River. Depending on your arrival time, you can enjoy a relaxing stroll along the riverside promenade, watch fishing boats glide along the river, or unwind at the hotel while adjusting to the tropical atmosphere.
Leave the city behind and travel through the countryside to Atjoni, the gateway to the Upper Suriname River. From here, board a motorized canoe and journey upriver through lush rainforest and exciting rapids. Arrive at the remote Danpaati River Lodge, a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature. Spend the afternoon relaxing by the river or swimming in safe spots nearby. In the evening, take a guided night cruise along the river to spot caimans resting along the sandy banks.
Today offers a deep cultural experience as you visit a traditional Maroon village, home to descendants of escaped African slaves who preserved their culture and traditions. Continue to the Saamaka Museum to learn about the history and heritage of the Saramaka people. Later, enjoy a guided rainforest walk where you may see tropical birds, monkeys, and medicinal plants. In the evening, watch a traditional dance performance featuring Seketi, Awasa, and Bandamba dances while learning about their cultural significance..
Wake early to witness the magical sunrise over the rainforest as mist rises above the river and birds such as parrots and toucans call from the treetops. After breakfast, depart the lodge and travel back by canoe and road to Paramaribo. The remainder of the day is free to relax, explore local markets, or enjoy riverside cafés in the capital
Explore the historic center of Paramaribo, a recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its unique wooden colonial architecture. Visit landmarks such as Fort Zeelandia and the Presidential Palace. Cross the river to the Commewijne district to explore historic plantations including Peperpot and Marienburg, where visitors learn about Suriname’s colonial past. The day also includes a traditional Javanese lunch in a local village before returning to the city.
Travel east along Suriname’s coastal region to the border town of Albina and cross the Maroni River into French Guiana. Continue to the town of Kourou where you will visit the famous Guiana Space Centre, one of the world’s most important rocket launch facilities. During the tour, learn about international space missions and see launch pads, assembly buildings, and mission control centers
Board a catamaran to visit the historic Îles du Salut, once part of France’s infamous penal colony system. Explore Île Royale and Île Saint-Joseph where the ruins of prison cells, an old church, and coastal trails still remain. Hear fascinating stories of prisoners including Alfred Dreyfus. Later return to the mainland and travel to Cayenne
Explore the charming church in Iracoubo, famous for its colorful interior painted by a former prisoner. Continue to Saint‑Laurent‑du‑Maroni, where the Transportation Centre reveals the history of French Guiana’s penal colony era. Later cross back into Suriname and return to Paramaribo for the evening.
On the final day, depart Paramaribo and continue your journey toward Georgetown in Guyana. This marks the end of an unforgettable adventure filled with rainforest exploration, cultural encounters, and historic discoveries across three unique South American destinations
Board a small plane for a breathtaking flight over endless rainforest to Kaieteur Falls, the world’s highest single-drop waterfall. Stand at the cliff edge as 30,000 gallons of water per second plunge 741 feet into the gorge below. Fly deep into Guyana’s interior, arriving at Iwokrama River Lodge. Cruise the river, then hike up Turtle Mountain for sweeping canopy views.
