Itinerary

Day 1Stop At Bawilai Village

This morning, once we have picked you up at the port, we will visit Bawilai Village – which is about 15 minutes outside of town in a beautiful rainforest. Here you will have a chance to meet local villagers and discuss everyday life and their culture! You will have a tour of the village where you will learn about many different plants/herbs and their uses.
This area is very centered around nono oil. Today you will see demonstrations on how it is made and used and applied. Betelnut chewing is also a huge part of the culture here as you will notice and also experience a betelnut chewing demonstration. We will also visit the local gravesite here where the traditional customs of burials will be explained.

Day 2Stop At Gopaia cultural village

From here, we will drive back to Alotau for our city tour including Today after lunch (lunch will be between (12pm – 1pm), we will visit Gopaia cultural village. Here we will experience a traditional welcome and have the opportunity to be a part of the local’s daily life and chores. For example, traditional cooking, making sago flour, using coconut, and starting a fire. From here, we will depart back for the port arriving right around 4:15 pm.
